Silicone in the Transport Sector
The presence of silicone in the transport sector is widespread, due to its versatility, durability, and adaptability to the most avant-garde designs.
This material can be found in the automotive, aeronautical, railway, and naval sectors in countless applications. It is located in both the exteriors and interiors of transport vehicles. Due to its characteristics of excellent performance against heat, abrasion, deformation, aging, and permeability, its lifespan is guaranteed to be long, and it is protected against corrosive and climatological agents. This helps maintain the structural integrity of the vehicle while ensuring that all interior and exterior components remain safe and unaltered.
At MEREFSA, we can design any project, test, and customize according to the needs of our customers.
Silicone Strengths
Mechanical and Electrical: Great resistance and stability to deformation, making it ideal for absorbing impacts, sealing, and maintaining waterproofing against dust, salt, and other weather agents. It also guarantees reliable electrical insulation in cables and components.
Thermal: With an operating range from -60°C to 300°C, it performs excellently in high-temperature environments and UV ray exposure. Its low toxicity and flame-retardant properties (EN 45545-2 standard) make it a key material for engine seals, fluid circulation, and combustion joints.
Chemical: Thanks to specific formulations (hardness, color, transparency, etc.), silicone can adapt to varied designs, from optics and control panels to bodywork. Fluorinated silicone stands out, as it combines high-temperature resistance with great corrosion tolerance, making it ideal for applications with highly aggressive solvents.

Where is it used?
It is mostly used in heavy vehicles, public transport, ships, wagons, locomotives, cars, and airplanes.
Specifically in: wiring, motor seals, sleeves, sealing doors and windows, hoses, shock absorbers, radiators, optics seals, electronic seals, fillers, anti-vibration fillers, and air conditioning seals.
